8 Things to do in Belgrano, Buenos Aires

Belgrano is an upmarket neighborhood in the north of Buenos Aires. It is a good place to live or stay in Buenos Aires for a few months.  It is a good place to live as a remote worker as there is a lovely park and plenty of shopping. The only downsides are that it is slightly further from the center than Palermo and has fewer touristic attractions than downtown. 

Is Belgrano safe?

Here are our recommendations of  8 things to do in Belgrano

1 Barrancas de Belgrano

Barrancas de Belgrano is a park where people go to relax and drink a mate. It is a nice park to go for a walk or to meet someone. The park can get busy in summer and there is also a pergola in the center of the park where you can sometimes see Tango shows at the weekend. 

Be careful when sitting down as many people bring their dogs to the park and sometimes they do their business on the grass!

I recommend bringing a picnic to the barracas, around merienda time(5 pm)

2 Chinatown Buenos Aires

The Chinatown in Belgrano is the only Chinatown in Argentina. Chinatown is really the settlement of various Asian settlements from countries such as Korea, Japan, and China. 

There is a Buddhist temple called Kuan Chong and Asian supermarkets if you are looking for some special ingredients from Asia. The Chinese New Year is also celebrated here at the end of January, 

3 Visit the Stadium of River Plate

River Plate is one of the two biggest football teams in Argentina and their stadium can be found in Belgrano. Tickets for matches are very difficult to get as the clubs only sell tickets to their members.

4 Shop on Cabildo Avenue

Cabildo Avenue is a long avenue that runs through the center of Belgrano. From José Hernandez to Avenida Monroe, you can find all sorts of stores including clothes, books, perfumes, and cafés and restaurants.  

5 Taste some northern Argentinian food at 1810 Cocina Regional

Argentinian food can be quite diverse and this is a great place to visit to taste some northern cuisine. 

You can try the “locro” which is similar to a stew or tamales or empanadas. If it is a cold day in Buenos Aires, then I definitely recommend a “guiso” which is like a lentil stew (You can usually order it with or without meat) 

6 Church “La Redonda” Inmaculada Concepción

This church is beautiful and was created as the church of Belgrano in 1878. It is called “La Redonda” because of its circular structure and high dome. There are a few nice cafés nearby and also a market with artisan crafts from Friday until Sunday.

7 Museo Larreta

This lovely 19th-century villa is a great place to visit and check out some Spanish art. Enrique Larreta was a writer and painter and also a Spanish art enthusiast. 

You can visit his collections here and enjoy the beautiful garden. The museum is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11am-7pm and 11am-8pm on the weekend.

8 Tierra Santa

Tierra Santa (The Holy Land) is a religious theme park. The park is a replica of biblical Jerusalem and includes a Jesus statue rising every hour. This is a great place to visit if you want to learn more about Christianity and an entertaining place for the children.

The Belgrano Neighborhood is a great place to live in Buenos Aires. Most foreigners choose to live in Belgrano or Palermo. Finding a long-term rent in Buenos Aires can be difficult and confusing as the prices can be in dollars or in Argentine Pesos. 

Zona prop is probably the best website if you are looking for an apartment for rent in Belgrano. The website is in Spanish but I also recommend joining a few groups on Facebook too. 

Who was Belgrano anyway?

Manuel Belgrano was one of the founding fathers of Argentina and the creator of the Argentinian flag. He was an economist, lawyer, politician, and military leader and took part in the talks which led to the independence of Argentina from Spain. 

Where is Villa General Belgrano?

Villa General Belgrano is a mountain town in the province of Cordóba. It was set up by German immigrants and is Argentina’s biggest celebration of Ocktoberfest.
