If you are deciding on whether to live in Argentina or Chile, you first should decide what type of place you want to live in. Do you want to live in the city? The countryside? A house? An apartment? Do you need good schools nearby or good nightlife?
Chile and Argentina are big countries with long coastlines. The Patagonia region stretches across both countries in the south and winters are cold and summers are windy. In the North of Argentina, the summer can be very warm and dry.
The capital cities are a good place to start when thinking about where to live. Both Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires are great places to live and have a vibrant cultural life.
The cost of living is generally cheaper in Argentina but prices can vary massively in both Brazil and Argentina. Generally speaking, things like electronics are expensive in Brazil and Argentina and services like taxis and haircuts are cheaper than in other places like the U.K or U.S.A
Cost of Living
The cost of living for a foreigner in Argentina is low, especially with the current exchange rate. Most things are slightly more expensive in Brazil with a 1-bedroom apartment costing around $410 in Santiago compared to $300 in Buenos Aires. Remember Airbnbs will cost substantially more.
If you are looking to get a job in the local economy, salaries are higher in Chile and your money will go further than in Argentina but if you are working remotely then Argentina is the better option as your money will go further.

Economy, Health, and Culture
When moving to a new country, it is important to think about the economy, health, and culture of the country.
The economy of Chile has been doing very well over the past few decades and Chile is one of the most developed countries in South America. The same can not be said for Argentina as they suffer through currency and inflation crises.
Healthcare is free in Argentina and is relatively well regarded in South America and ranked 75th in the world but longer wait times can happen. Chile is ranked 33rd in the world for healthcare.
The cultural and social scene is well and alive in both Santiago de Chile and in Buenos Aires.
