Travel Insurance Plans for Buenos Aires, Argentina (2022)

Travel insurance is important in case anything goes wrong but it is also currently a requirement of travelling to Argentina.

You are no longer required to have travel insurance that covers illness from covid in 2022. It is important to note that medical expenses can be expensive in Argentina so travel insurance is definitely a sound investment.

There are many travel insurance companies to choose from but our current recommendation is SafetyWing because it is suitable for the majority of people travelling to Buenos Aires in Argentina.

What is the required travel insurance for Argentina?

As of the 26th of August 2022, travel insurance is no longer a requirement for Argentina. The only entry requirement for Argentina is your passport.

What is the best travel insurance for Argentina?

There are plenty of options for travel insurance for your trip to Argentina. Personally, I prefer companies that make it easy to sign up, easy to make a claim and don’t cost a fortune.

These companies are best for digital nomads as they let people from every country sign up and you don’t have to be in your home country when you sign up.

Safety Wing

Safety Wing is a good option if you are not looking to purchase expensive travel insurance. The travel insurance costs $42 per month for your trip to Argentina if you are under 40. If you are over 40, your travel insurance will be somewhere between $68 and $145 per month.

There is also a deductible of $250.

Safety Wing is great if you are already travelling as you don’t have to be in your home country when you purchase their travel insurance. They cover both medical and travel insurance.

Heymondo

Heymondo seems to be one of the best value travel insurance providers that provide more comprehensive coverage than some of the cheaper providers. They also have cheaper renewal prices of $47 a month and a 24-hour doctor chat with their app.

Genki

Genki is a relatively new company offering insurance and they do cover Covid so you will be ok to enter Argentina. The thing I like most about Genki is that it is super easy to understand the price and what exactly is covered.

I am currently using Genki and I am happy with their service but thankfully I haven’t had to make a claim.

The cost is currently cheaper if you are under 30 so this could be a good option for you if you are a younger traveller.

For citizens of the U.S.A

If you are a citizen of the United States, then you might want to have a look at Squaremouth. It is an aggregator of travel insurance so it gives you all the options available to you.

Travel Insurance Agregator Websites

One thing that might influence your decision on which travel insurance to get is what country you are from.  A travel insurance Agregator website allows you to search all travel insurance providers depending on your criteria so they might be helpful for you to search:

Travel Insurance Prices

The cost of travel insurance depends greatly on your age, the coverage you get and deductibles. Here are some monthly options for budget-conscious travellers to Argentina.

CompanyCost Deductible
Safety Wing$42$250
Genki$54$100
HeyMondo$120$0
IMG travel insurance$100$0
World Nomads$136 or $240$0
Travelex$339$0

What are deductibles?

Okay, so what exactly are deductibles? Deductibles are basically an amount that you need to pay upfront and then the insurance company will pay the rest after you get sick.

I prefer to pay a higher deductible with a lower monthly payment. Imagine if you have to pay a $30,000 bill for a stay in a hospital. Then you might have to pay $250 and the insurance company will pay the rest. For smaller bills, the deductible does not have to be paid.

Travel insurance companies’ pros and cons

All travel insurances come with some pros and cons so I will list some here so you can get a better idea of what company might be the best for you. Again, we recommend Safetywing as they provide decent cover and provide very good value.

CompanyProsCons
Safety WingLow price, Easy to use, no need to prove residencyHigh deductible, some people complain about difficulty with claims
GenkiGood value, Easy to useNew company so difficult to find information
IMG travel insuranceReputable company, More comprehensive coverageWebsite is difficult to use
World NomadsComprehensive insuranceExpensive, do not cater to digital nomads

As you need travel insurance to get into Argentina, it is necessary to buy some before you travel. I was asked at the airport to show my travel insurance and show that it covered illness from Covid so it is worth printing off your policy so you can show the immigration officer.
