USA citizens DO NOT need a Tourist Visa to visit Argentina for up to 90 days (all the information was updated on the Argentina Embassy website in 2020.
What are the requirements to enter Argentina from the US?
To enter Argentina as a US citizen who enters the country as a tourist you’ll need your passport (valid). As of today, there are no other requirements or documentation for US tourists visiting the country for a period of up to 90 days.
You should also have all the information regarding where you are staying, the address, a phone number (in case you are staying in a hotel and how long you are staying.
They might ask you to see your return ticket, so have all the documents at hand in case you need to show them.
Some officers will ask questions about your stay in Spanish only others will speak English. From our experience, when Conor visited Argentina in 2019, the officer asked questions in Spanish. He was asked to provide details of where we were staying in Argentina. In 2022, they didn’t ask much, just about the purpose of the visit.
Since you don’t need a tourist visa coming from the US, you won’t need to show any further documentation. In 2019, Conor got a stamp on his passport, but not on our last visit in July 2022.
What happens when you arrive in the country?
After you land, remember to go through passport control with all your documents at hand. You’ll have to queue in the “All passports” line.
Be ready to answer questions like:
- What is the purpose of your visit? – ¿Cuál es el propósito de su visita?
- Where are you flying from? – ¿De dónde viene? / ¿De qué país viene?
- Where are you staying? – ¿Dónde se va a quedar? / Nombre de alojamiento
- How long are you planning to stay? – ¿Cuánto tiempo se va a quedar?
Requirements to enter Argentina with pets
If you are traveling to Argentina with your furry friend, there are some things you have to do before your trip:
Vaccinate your pet against rabies for a period between 30 days and 12 months before entering the country.
Within 10 days prior to your trip, a veterinarian (certified by a health governmental institution) must fill in the “Certificado Veterinario de Argentina” form and attach a copy of the anti rabies vaccination cert.
Remember to always check with your nearest embassy in case of any doubts.
Extending your Tourist Visa in Argentina
You can request an extension of your visa at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (National Direction of Migration), from 8 am to 2 pm.
This request for an extension of residence must be made within sixty (60) days prior to the expiration of the temporary residence and within ten (10) days prior to the expiration of the temporary residence.
For this process you’ll need:
- Valid passport
- Renewal fee
- Transitory residence in force (If the term of stay has expired, the such residence may not be extended. In order to leave the national territory, an exit authorization must be requested.)
I recommend contacting the US embassy in advance if you decide to extend your tourist visa to Buenos Aires.
Are there Working Holiday visas for Argentina?
Argentina has set up a program for Work and Holiday visas for citizens of the following countries: Germany, Australia, Denmark, France, Ireland, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, and Sweden.
For some of these countries, there is a limited number of applicants.
What are the Digital Nomads Visas in Buenos Aires?
The Buenos Aires City government has set up a program for digital nomads planning to work remotely in Buenos Aires.

Application process and Requirements
This Digital Nomad visa was announced in June this year (2022), so for that reason as of now( October 2022) the Argentine government has not released a list of requirements that you will need for the digital nomad visa application.
