There are no beaches near the city of Buenos Aires as the city is located at the mouth of the “Río de la Plata” and you need to travel 350 kms to the sea.
You can travel to the beach town of San Clemente del Tuyú which is about 330 kilometers and takes about 4 hours by car.
The beaches near Buenos Aires
Your options, if you want to go to the beach in Buenos Aires, are to go to Uruguay, Mar del Plata, or go to one of the river beaches north of Buenos Aires. If you have longer to spend on the beach you could also go to Brazil and fly to Florianópolis, Sao Paulo(Check out Ilhabela) or Rio de Janeiro( Arraial de Cabo, Ipanema, etc)
Uruguay
You could decide to get the boat to Uruguay and visit the beaches there. Punta del Este is the most famous resort city that has beautiful beaches.
It will take you about 7 hours to drive to Punta del Este or you get to take the ferry(2 hours 45 minutes) and then drive from Montevideo(2 hours).
Mar Del Plata
If you want an easier trip(and you want to stay in Argentina!) you can always go to the beaches in and around the city of Mar del Plata. There are many beaches in the city of Mar del Plata and also further up the coast in Pinamar.
It takes about 4-5 hours to drive to Mar del Plata. There is also a bus that can take you that takes about 5 hours and costs around $15.
River Beaches
There are also some “river beaches” if you go upriver north of the city. Gualeguaychu and Paraná are some examples of some nice river beaches.
You should note that many beaches in Argentina are very crowded in summer as there are a lot of people who want to get out of the city and enjoy the beach!
